Last week we picked names of students, teachers and staff from a hat; this week the Secret Santa festivities are in full swing. By now, the gifts are ready, and the challenge involves finding a sneaky way to deliver the gift while remaining anonymous. Midweek we pause to bring donations for Toys for Tots, followed by Friday’s “big reveal,” in which each person gets a bigger gift and meets each Secret Santa.
Candy seemed the most popular gift for the first day. The second day featured a mix of “girl stuff,” such as nail polish and lip gloss, fun socks, some cookies and, of course, more candy. Today the school foyer has a cascading array of Toys for Tots donations surrounding the tree and leaving a small walking path for those passing through.
The Secret Santa tradition provides a fun way to mingle with different students and teachers and get the opportunity to share the community joy with a broader circle of friends, teachers, administrators, staff as well as needy children.
When asked what her favorite part of the Secret Santa tradition is, Katie Hogan ’20 jumped up and down with excitement saying, “It’s fun to anticipate who your Secret Santa is!” So I think it’s safe to say, everyone loves receiving gifts, but giving is even more exciting than receiving. And uncovering the mystery of your generous gift-giver remains the ultimate thrill!
