19 Juniors & Seniors Spent April Break Serving in Jamaica

As the entire student body enjoy spring break, 19 juniors and seniors are enjoying a different kind of April Vacation. On Friday, April 17th, these Montrosians flew to Jamaica for a week of spirit and service. The girls are spending the week of April 17th-24th volunteering in Kingston, Jamaica in a Mustard Seed Community outreach program.

The group is working with disabled children who are living in an orphanage, and they will volunteer with any work that needs to be done. They will also contribute to some ongoing construction projects that need some help. The girls will stay with the children during their trip to the Mustard Seed Community.

Each girl raised $1,100 to donate to Mustard Seed with an additional $800 for the plane ticket. Before take-off, the girls expressed excitement. Gabby Leonard ‘16 said, “We are looking forward to caring for the children with disabilities while staying at the Mustard Seed Community. It will be a great opportunity to deepen our faith and help children who are not able to help themselves.” Gabby reflects the group’s commitment to serve, an attribute they credit with their Montrose education. To serve with spirit and character remains a value Montrose has instilled in them.

Chaperones Ms Rice and Ms Schirripa are leading this group, which includes seven seniors — Lindsay Lombardo, Claire Gerwatowski, Brenna Mitchell, Siobhan O’Brien, Elle Schirripa, Mary Theresa Wahlen, and Talia Zais — and 12 juniors — Tyra Alexander, Megan Bellavance, Sylvia Conte, Kim Falcao, Michaela Fleming, Julia Gibson, Saoirse Healy, Gabby Leonard, Catherine Melley, Ally O’Connell, Liz O’Neill, and Mackenzie Young.
