Have you ever had a headache or a stomach ache? If so, you’ve met Mrs. Rose, the Montrose School nurse. She is the one that saves all of us from our intermittent headaches and stomach aches. She’s the one whom we go to if we are feeling sick or feeling down. While Mrs. Rose said that her “first responsibility is to take care of the sick students,” we all know that we depend on her for much more.
Katie Stordy ‘17 revealed the extra effort that Mrs. Rose makes in all her encounters with students. Katie said, “Mrs. Rose is really nice and always takes time to evaluate your situation and do the best she can. She is very friendly and is always smiling.” Emma Penn ‘17 said “I’m new here, and I went to her because I had a stomach ache, and she treated me very well.”
Mrs. Rose’s main job is to make the student feel better so they can get back to class as soon as possible. There are, of course, times where the student is too sick to go back to class, but sending students home is rare, according to Mrs. Rose. Mrs. Rose also has administrative responsibilities to record student incidences and health needs as well as consulting with teachers and parents about students’ health. In addition, Mrs. Rose trains the faculty on how to deal with health emergencies, how to use epipens, etc.
The greatest obstacle students might face when they need Mrs. Rose support is waiting in line, at which point she needs to treat the most urgent cases first. Mrs. Rose said, “I don’t like to make kids wait, but sometimes there are too many people.” All Montrosians agree that Mrs. Rose is the Montrose life saver.
