In light of the recent loss of our beloved friend Elizabeth a grief counselor will be available to any students who wish to discuss any thoughts or emotions. As a wonderful new addition to the Montrose Community, Dr. Burke says, “One of the benefits of sitting and talking with me is that you don’t have to worry about how I’m doing or about being judged and just focus on what’s happening to you. Also, I am bound to keep each person’s confidence. That is, whatever is said to me stays with me (unless a serious question about personal or public safety arises).”
Dr. Burke added, “It’s a bit unusual to talk about personal thoughts and feelings with someone you don’t know, but it is what I do and my comfort is often contagious. Talking helps sort things out a bit and can provide some relief. I do understand what it is to be shy, and also know it can be a valuable experience to reach past shyness to try for what you want or need. So if someone is drawn to stopping by and talking for a bit, it could work out just fine to trust her instincts.”
Although this schedule is prone to change, Dr. Burke will be at Montrose on Tuesday March 4th from 11:00 to 2:00, Tuesday March 11th from 11:00 to 2:00, and Thursday March 13th from 12:45 to 3:15. There will be a sign up sheet by Ms. Harpers desk to meet with Dr. Burke. Each meeting will last about 15 and will take place next to Ms. Harper’s office. A sound machine will be place by the location to provide more privacy.
