Most schools put up a few halloween decorations in light of the Halloween holiday. However, at Montrose it is more common to celebrate over the top. Through out the years, costumes have only become more diverse and exotic.
Students become more creative and compete for the prize for best costumes. The treasured reward of best costumes is a large bag overflowing with delicious candy. This light-hearted competition leaves one middle school prize and one upper school student as winners.
The fun day begins with the haunted hallway, which is a spooky hallway through the Media Center and room 15 transformed by the tenth grade, who stayed until 8 PM the night before to finish the meticulously-crafted thrills and scares.
On Halloween, classes rotate through the pitch-black hallway for a few screams and then each class shows off its costumes to the rest of the school in a special Common Home Room assembly. Shannon Rose ‘17 said, “ It’s nice to see everyone dressing up and putting so much effort into their costumes!” Halloween at Montrose is a day when costumes, special events, uniquely-crafted scares and abundant candy make for a fun diversion to regular classes.
