The countdown to Semi begins as the event is only a week away. With all commotion surrounding going stag or bringing a date, this time can get a little intense for some girls. We also have to worry about our hair, nails, and, biggest of all, the dress. Montrose student Olivia Hastie ‘18 said: “Looking for the perfect dress is stressful because there are many different dresses and it takes a lot of trial and error to find the perfect one.” If you are also having difficulty finding that perfect dress, no need to fear, for I am here.

I have had that hair-pulling, stressful time of figuring out which dress to wear.  Even though I am no expert at formal attire shopping, I have put together a collection of tips and tricks for experience.

  1.     Go online. It is always a good idea to plan ahead and get an idea of what you like or want. Stores like Macy’s, Lord and Taylor, and Nordstrom have a wide variety of online options.
  2.     Leave time for going to stores. If you online shop, give yourself time to be able to get a new dress if you end up not liking the previously chosen dress.
  3.     Be creative. Montrose Semi might be in winter, but that does not restrict you to black only. Try reds, blues, pinks, and more! There is a whole rainbow full of colors that you can play with. Do not be afraid to try out sparkles too — whatever works.
  4.     Make sure the dress fits. Make sure that nothing that shouldn’t be visible is hanging out. Nobody wants to see things that are near and dear to you. Your dress should fit just right, not too tight and not too loose. However, if it is crunch time and you cannot find the perfect fit, it is always best to go a little loose than a little tight.
  5. Find something that suits your personality whether it is black or hot pink. Be yourself and have confidence. This is your night. Embrace the fabulous dress you’re wearing and have fun!
