Mavericks Varsity Soccer Undefeated after Three Games

The Montrose Mavericks Varsity Soccer Team spent part of their DeTorre day at Chapel Hill Chauncy Hall. The Mavericks are still undefeated in their league with a 9-0 win. With such a high-scoring season early in the year, everyone on the team has scored. Despite the many injuries the team has suffered, the Mavericks still display their strength and resilience in every game. The team’s next game is against Gann Academy.

The Montrose Mavericks Varsity Soccer Team is off to a great start with early wins against Brimmer and May as well as Landmark. At the against Brimmer and May on Sept 16, the Mavericks got off to a rough start, down a goal in the first few minutes of the first half. Eventually, the Mavericks came back to tie the score 1-1, but senior Rylee Booth was taken to the hospital in an ambulance with a hip injury. The Mavericks started the second half with lots of energy, but Brimmer scored again to make it 2-1. However, the Mavericks scored again to tie it up at 2-2. Throughout the rest of the second half, Montrose controlled the play and had many shots, but none went in; the game ended in a tie.

On September 23, the Mavericks took the hour long-drive, limited time for warm-ups, but  started the game against Landmark with high energy and took an early lead. The Mavericks held the lead for the entire game, winning 11-0. This year’s team is led by seven seniors including the captain’s, Tyra Alexander, Lauren Francis and Catherine Conroy. Although the majority of the Mavericks are upper school students, the two eighth graders, Liv McClary and Devyn Gianino, are contributing factors to this well-rounded team.
