Every fall, avid Revs fans flock to Gillette Stadium to watch the New England Revolution. For the Revs, this season has been an especially exciting one. In past years, the Revs have struggled with new coaches, players, and injuries. However, this year it seems that the Revs have found their groove. They are currently  number one in MLS (Major League Soccer) with seventy points overall. Fans are optimistic for the MLS Cup Playoffs starting on November 19 because the Revs are a favorite to win. This is significant because in the history of the MLS, the Revs have never won the Cup.

Another major accomplishment for the Revs this season was receiving an award called the Supporter’s Shield. This is an award given annually to the MLS team with the best regular season record. On October 24, the Supporter’s Shield Foundation awarded the Shield to the New England Revolution.

New additions to the team have allowed the Revs to grow and reach a high level of play. Revs’ coach Bruce Arena is a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame, and he has had a long and distinguished coaching career. Arena is considered to be one of the most successful coaches in US soccer history. He has coached the men’s US national team and several college and MLS teams (he won the MLS Cup with the LA Galaxy). Arena became head coach for the Revs in 2019.

Matt Turner, the Revs’ goalkeeper, is a star member of the team. He has been called onto the United States Men’s National Team for three 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifying matches. He is an invaluable player, ranking among the top ten MLS goalkeepers, with a save percentage at 75.6%.

One of the Revs’ top goal scorers, Gustavo Bou, is also an essential asset to the team. Bou plays forward for the Revolution and has scored fifteen goals this season.

Carles Gil, an attacking midfielder, has eighteen assists this season and is an important part of the team. Gil is a contender to win MVP of the MLS. If the Revs contend for the MLS Cup, Gil will play a vital role in the playoffs.
