Montrose Alum Spearheads the Dont Forget Me Project to support children with Life-threatening Illnesses

Christmas, the most wonderful time of the year…for giving back.  Montrose alum Victoria Adams ‘10 certainly believes in giving back to the community this holiday season. Through her new “Don’t Forget About Me Project,” Victoria is collecting gifts and monetary donations (which she’ll use to buy gifts) for adolescents who have life-altering diagnoses and little or no support from family. Many of these children lack everyday necessities, and Victoria wants them to feel loved and cared for.

To make a fiscal donation, please visit The Don’t Forget About Me Project’s gofundme page. To donate new, unwrapped gifts appropriate for a pre-teen or teenager, please contact Victoria directly via messenger on the project’s Facebook page.

Donations are being accepted through Friday, December 16. Suggested gifts include: winter clothing (i.e. coats, gloves, hats,) gift cards, electronics, etc.

Victoria had the idea for the project while working as a social work intern at a public hospital in Boston. Recently, Victoria was asked to create a list of Christmas gifts on behalf of a charitable organization, but the organization specifically requested gifts geared only towards younger children.  Victoria felt the need to support the forgotten adolescents, many of whom would not be receiving any gifts this Christmas season.

The Don’t Forget About Me Project focuses on those adolescents that are less fortunate and creates a platform to support them.  The project is only in its inaugural year, yet Victoria plans on growing the project until it is possibly year-round.  She thinks that it is never not the time to be giving back to others in times of need.  Victoria goes into detail about what truly inspired her to start the project: “What inspired me to launch the Don’t Forget About Me Project, was my passion to help children. Children and adolescents are one the most vulnerable and helpless populations because they require adults to attend to their basic needs…The odds are against these children and I was not and will not be comfortable with these children becoming another statistic.”

This Christmas, please consider donating to this unbelievable project.  It will not only help the local community, but also help Victoria continue to build the Don’t Forget About Me Project into a bigger, influential movement.  Just think of a Bible verse that Victoria believes embodies the Don’t Forget About Me Project: “And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me. If anyone causes one of these little ones—those who believe in me—to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.”-Matthew‬ ‭18:3-6‬
