Believe it or not, anyone can do art. Although there are people born naturally with these skills, any hard worker can develop the tools necessary for a good artist. At least this is the sentiment of Mrs. Marge Montrose’s art teacher, who wishes to promote this can-do attitude in all of her students.
As many students know, art is an elective in the high school. Unfortunately ,some Montronsians tend to overlook art class because they feel that they are not artists. This class focuses on improving each student’s art skills and helping them grow in their process. Art classes are not designed only for students who have a natural ability for art. The objective of the class according to Mrs. Marge is “that a student comes in and approaches art with openness, flexibility, and desire to develop skills, solve problems and find personal growth and reward.”
According to Mrs. Marge, “Many people have a misconception that they are not good artists. As this idea develops, it sticks with people and prevents them from improving their skills.” Still, what people fail to understand is that art is a process and is something that requires continuous effort. Mrs. Marge says, “ a student should not be locked in frustration.” She emphasized that everything put on canvas is not permanent.
Mrs. Marge understands that each person’s creativity is different; and, at times, it can be hard to tap into the imagination. However, through introspection an artist can find their “natural bubble” and reflect without distraction. She says that focusing on inner thought in the creative process is a principle that can help many areas of artistic expression. Displaying an inner thought on canvas is one form of such expression. There are countless varieties.
Taking Mrs. Marge’s approach to art, students should explore the creative process through art electives at Montrose. Art class will give you tools and opportunities to expand creativity.
