The 2026 Grammys were a flurry of excitement and fun! Hosted for the sixth consecutive year by Trevor Noah on Sunday, Feb. 1, the ceremony was funny and overall an enjoyable watch. The night was star-stacked with many celebrity presenters including Carole King, Chappel Roan, Charli XCX, Harry Styles and Lainey Wilson. There were even some new awards at this year’s ceremony. For the first time, the Grammys included the awards for best traditional country album and best album cover. Many amazing artists were nominated for awards this year, but a few were left out; the most noticeable was Gracie Abrams’ incredible album, “The Secret of Us”. The Grammys this year were also noticeably a time where artists took the stage not just for their music, but also to speak their minds on current issues and to advocate for their beliefs.
For awards, many artists new and old were honored this year. There were many surprises, and many well deserved expected wins. With back-to-back wins in 2025 and 2026, the creative genius Amy Allen won songwriter of the year. This year, Amy was most celebrated for working on the “Man’s Best Friend” album with Sabrina Carpenter, the song “Just Keep Watching” sung by Tate McRae, and “APT” sung by Bruno Mars and ROSE. For best pop duo/group performance, we held each other’s fingers in excitement for the win by “Defying Gravity” by Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande from the “Wicked” movie. It was super exciting to see a win in this category from a movie musical. Best new artist was a STACKED category this year with so many amazing new artists nominated such as Alex Warren, Sombr, KATSEYE and Lola Young. But the winner who stole the show was the beautiful Olivia Dean. Olivia Dean’s album “The Art of Loving” skyrocketed her popularity this year, and it’s wonderful to see her be having such great success. Song of the year was won by “Wildflower” sung by Billie Eilish. This award was so well deserved; the song is such a good listen. Record of the year was won by the big winner of last year’s Grammys: Kendrick Lamar with his record “Luther” that he worked on with SZA. Last but not least, the most anticipated award of the night, album of the year, was won by Bad Bunny for his album “DeBi TiRAR Mas FOToS.” His win was historic, as he is the first artist to win album of the year with an album fully in Spanish. With all these awards given out, one thing that was noticed is that Sabrina Carpenter’s incredibly popular album “Manchild” was left out of the awards, which was a big shocker for many fans. Throughout the awards, there were many amazing performances. One of the most notable was Sabrina Carpenter’s fun performance of “Manchild,” where she wore a white pilot’s outfit and sang out of a megaphone. The performance was fun and upbeat and overall very enjoyable to watch. A performance that was on the opposite end of Sabrina Carpenter’s being much more stripped of other performers and flash was Justin Bieber’s return to the spotlight with his performance of “Yukon.” The only things on stage were Justin, his electric guitar and a keyboard. The performance was intimate and so real. Many fans were very excited to see Justin back in the public eye.
