Out of the many clubs and extracurricular activities at Montrose, the Junior Classical League stands out as an enriching and fun club filled with cool field trip opportunities. Upcoming events include celebrating Virgil’s birthday on October 15th (cake and root beer included) and attending the 2013 Mass JCL Catapult Competition on October 12th.The Montrose JCL is a part of the Mass JCL, or the statewide league focused on learning about and living Ancient Roman culture. Some might think studying dusty figures and events rather dry… Not so with JCL!
The Classics are brought to life with intense Certamen (think Latin-themed Jeopardy), hilarious skits reworking ancient mythology, and, of course, the much-beloved catapult competition. In addition, the annual Classics Day at Boston University provides engaging lectures about ancient culture.
Montrose JCL meets every other Tuesday in Room 18. Finally, on October 18th, Montrose JCL veterans will initiate the new members. See JCL executives Abby Gillis ‘16 and Laura Bergemann ‘15 for more details.
JCL is open to anyone eighth grade and up with a curiosity for the Classics.
