This year at Montrose, compared to years past, we have had a surprising amount of snow days. For us busy students, this is a great time to sleep in and catch up on homework, but, after that, what should we do? I mean, even scrolling on TikTok gets boring after a couple of hours. In this article, I will be covering five non-screen activities to get immersed in on a day when you’re stuck inside with nothing to do.
1. Bake
Baking is a super fun activity to do when bored! The options are practically endless: cookies, banana bread, brownies, cupcakes, etc. Another pro to this option is getting to enjoy what you made and share it with the rest of your family.
2. Read/Journal
Curling up by the fireplace, or with a pet, and reading your favorite book is a great way to spend any downtime on your day off. Journaling about something or reflecting on something in your life is also a great way to relax and enjoy some quiet time.
3. Exercise
Running on the treadmill or stretching is a great way to get your body moving and your spirit up when you’re bored at home. Even just 10 minutes of exercise is great for your body and mind.
4. Spending time with pets
Take advantage of your time at home and cuddle and play with your beloved pet. Needed to clean your guinea pigs’ cage? Now is the time to do it! Go and teach your dog that new trick that you’ve been wanting to do. Spending time with your pet is a nice way to get your mood up and theirs as well!
5. Pick up something new
This time at home is perfect for you to learn something new. The options are endless. Guitar, knitting, crocheting, braiding hair and making jewelry are all great hobbies to pick up. Don’t worry if you need to Youtube any of these things; you have to start somewhere! But you can also have a family member teach them to you, and you can spend time with them!
Hopefully these five activities will boost your day off, and you have a lot of fun with them. Remember not to give up and to keep going with it! Enjoy your snow day, Montrose!!
