Senior Appreciation Soccer Game and Other Soccer Updates

October 28th marked the end of the Varsity Soccer team’s regular season play undefeated in league play, and the team is now preparing for the play-off season. Despite the heavy rain and very long drive, Montrose won 4-0 over Waring. Ciara Dunn ‘18 and Julia Gibson ‘16 each scored one goal, and Rylee Booth ‘16 scored two. Come support the Mavericks in the first round of post-season games on Monday, November 2nd at Miracle field.

The senior appreciation game on October 23 was the last regular-season last home game of the regular season, which means the season is coming to a close. The Mavericks celebrated a 7-0 win over Chapel Hill Chauncy Hall, with five out of seven seniors scoring goals. Sylvia Conte ‘16 played the whole game as the goalie, filling in for the usual full-time keeper Lauren Francis ‘16, who could not attend.  After the game, the parents and players gathered together for a rose ceremony, which consisted of sophomores and juniors presenting each senior with roses to honor their contributions to Montrose’s soccer program. The night was complete when players gathered around a firepit and shared pizza and cake.

On October 22nd, the Montrose Mavericks celebrated an important 2-1 win over Lexington Christian Academy. Thursday was the first time the Mavericks beat Lexington Christian. Annie Irwin ‘19 scored the first goal, and Julia Gibson ‘16 scored the game-winning goal.

On October 21st, the team tied Southfield 2-2. The game was very even and well-played. With 13 minutes left to go in the game, Southfield’s goalie suffered a serious head injur, and left the field in an ambulance. The Mavericks wish her a speedy recovery.

Post-season play offers many opportunities to support the team for fans as the Varsity players move on in hopes to synch more honors for Montrose.
