Montrose Kicks off Fall Sports
While several students might be sad about summer break ending, many Montrosians have hit the fields with high spirits and excitement for the upcoming fall season. Soccer, which had the highest turnout for tryouts, reaching twenty-eight girls, had a very successful preseason. Captain Devyn Gianino said, “This was definitely one of the best turnouts I’ve ever seen, I saw a lot of skills on the field and I cannot wait for the first game!” The soccer girls’ determination for another trophy this year is hard to miss, and you can catch them playing Gann this Monday and LCA this Friday!
Field hockey, who graduated three core seniors, also had a successful preseason. Welcoming seven new girls to the team, varsity field hockey is so excited to begin the season. Their level of intensity and much higher level of skill can be seen through their grind at practices. Field hockey, which has already had two scrimmages, will also have their first game on Friday against LCA.
Volleyball and cross country have also begun their training for the fall season. Cross country has many members who are new and returning. The team has built a strong bond together through their countless runs and conditioning practices. While volleyball graduated eleven seniors last year, the team is as energetic and motivated as ever. Most members of the team are new to volleyball, so it will take some extra grit to both learn and practice the game. Nonetheless, the team is ready to play their first games of the season this Wednesday and Friday.
Be sure to check out the Athletics Calendar for upcoming games so you can come cheer on Montrose’s athletes.
