Many students, including me, agree that the button down dress uniform should change into a more comfortable blouse. When I asked students what the main issue was, they said the sleeves were too tight, especially on those with puffed sleeves. This is because the shirt has no elasticity in any area of the blouse. If you have ever lifted your arms up, you are most likely to experience discomfort in the area of the sleeve endings, and perhaps a feeling of tightness. Even if the blouse is a perfect fit, you will usually feel tightness in the sleeves, making it hard to participate in most school activities, including writing. Most of us have usually been late in the morning, but the button down is simply a pain. If you accidentally put the button through the wrong hole, it means that you have to start all over again making you even later to begin with. On days when you have gym class, it will take much longer to get ready and unready, which results in less playing time. Button down blouses are just another small problem that can impact students’ engagement and change our school for the better.
