As I think back to my experience at a sleepaway camp I attended last summer, I realized I wanted to share some pros and cons that I found while at camp. I honestly think that sleepaway camp is an amazing experience and that, as long as you aren’t a person who gets homesick, it’s really worth going.
Pros:
- You get a sense of independence.
- You meet so many new people.
- There are lots of fun activities.
- At most camps, you get to stay in a cabin.
- You can have a good friendship with your counselor.
7th Grader Natalie Bowman states, “It feels like a sleepover every night… you get closer to your fellow campers because you’re spending all day with them and night.”
Cons:
- You most likely will not be able to use your phone.
- You will not be with your family.
- Really fast and shared showers.
- (Sometimes) uncomfortable beds.
- Homesickness.
8th Grader Tess Martin says that you may “miss your family.”
All in all, there are both good and bad sides to attending a sleepaway camp, but, mostly, you can spend time with your friends and have fun! I hope that this article helps you truly consider if you would like to go to a sleepaway camp. I can say from personal experience that it is very much worth it.
