The Varsity Field Hockey team has proven that they can rise to the challenge this season. The varsity squad is now competing with more schools, more competitive teams and has the pleasure of hosting home games at McCarthy Field right here in Medfield.
Team co-captain Katie Fair talks about their improvements: “I’m really proud of our team and how much we’ve improved with just a few practices. We are beginning to bond and play as one unit so we have an unstoppable defense and aggressive offense.”
Varsity has been holding their own with three tied games and scrimmages against CSW, Brimmer and May, and Dana Hall. The varsity squad played hard last week with a strong win of 4-1 against CSW and one loss against Cambridge Academy, where they played with great skill against a very experienced team.
Coach Blackburn said, “The Varsity Field Hockey team is doing an excellent job with a very competitive schedule and coming together as a team. Two years ago we were a club team; now we’re a NEPSAC team.”
The teams they have played so far are known for their strong programs, and our new varsity squad has definitely given them a run for their money. Good job, girls, and keep up the good work!
