Montrose Spring Sports Update
As the weather grows warmer, Montrose athletes take to the field and prepare for the spring sports season. This year, there are four spring sports and six teams: Varsity, JV, and Middle School Lacrosse, Varsity Softball, Track & Field, and Self Defense.
Spring teams will have a regular schedule this year for the first time in two years. This means that varsity teams will have 8-13 games/meets. There are many home games this season, with lacrosse home games on Miracle Field and softball at McCarthy Fields.
This year, Coach Moran is joining the varsity lacrosse team as head coach. The team is also led by Coach Bettinelli, Coach Osborne, and Coach Mahoney. In addition to these coaches, the lacrosse team has three senior captains: Nora Kelly ‘22, Caroline Piorkowski ‘22, and Anna Rose ‘22. The lacrosse team is full of talented players and is looking forward to a successful season, hoping to win the IGC championship at the end of the season.
The JV lacrosse team also has a lot of potential. Coach Boynton and Coach Stebbins are leading the team and working to help develop each girl’s lacrosse skills.
Middle school lacrosse is offered for girls who may be new to the sport and looking to have fun and learn the basics of lacrosse. Coach Crehan will be returning this year to coach middle school lacrosse.
The varsity softball team is looking forward to a competitive season with twelve total games. Coach Hogan and Coach McCarthy will be leading the team this season accompanied by captains, Maddy Marshall ‘22 and Bella Convery ‘22.
Led by Coaches Kerr, Lechner, and O’Shea-Curran, the Montrose track and field team will be competing in a total of eight meets this season. The team is also led by captains Kasey Corra ‘22, Tess Farr ‘22, and Alanna Hyatt ‘22.
Another great addition to the Montrose sports program is self-defense. Mrs. Stearns, an instructor at Impact Martial Arts studio, brought this self-defense class to Montrose last spring and is running it again this year. Self-defense is a great opportunity for girls to learn about how to defend themselves if they ever are in an unsafe situation while also having fun with their classmates.
Spring sports at Montrose will definitely be engaging and competitive, so be sure to make it to some of the home games to support your fellow Mavericks!
