This year, the Varsity Volleyball team was lucky enough to have five seniors on our team. Each one of them positively contributed to the team, allowing us to claim the IGC title! Whether it was bringing good energy, helping with the book, or encouraging everyone, they all had a huge impact. We are sad to see them go, but we have made the best memories with them and know that they will do great things in college!
One of the easiest seniors to celebrate is our very own Katie Hanifin. Katie graciously stepped up to be our team manager for the 2023 season. Her hard work and dedication were truly unmatched and did not go unnoticed by the team. Katie’s contributions made the work for the referees, coaches, and trainers much easier. Without Katie to keep stats and run the scoreboard, the team would simply not have functioned. She was our unsung hero and, without a doubt, kept us going. Next year, Katie is off to UMass Amherst, and we wish her the best!
Captain Shannon Mahoney has been on the team for four years and is the middle hitter. She excelled in her position by making hard transitions look easy and being a force at the net. Shannon has always been a strong leader for the team. She has a positive attitude, and her humor lightens the mood in every situation. Shannon was the heart and soul of our team, and it won’t be the same without her. She will be continuing her studies at Saint Anselm College while also playing for the Women’s Lacrosse team!
Meredith Ehrenzeller was the core of our team. She was the most versatile athlete and was always helping out in any way she could. Whether our coach put her in as an outside hitter or a middle hitter, she adapted to each position and shined on the court. Meredith was truly the best teammate and an all-around amazing athlete and person. She will be attending Colgate University next year, and we will miss her so much!
Abby Coyle was new to our team this year but immediately fit in. She was a fierce competitor but a very easy-going person. Her calm spirit eased tension, and she was always making us laugh. As a middle hitter for the team, Abby was very consistent, and we could always count on her to secure points for us from the attack line. She will be staying relatively close, as she becomes a gull at Endicott College in Beverly, Massachusetts!
Last, but certainly not least, is Fiona Hernon, one of our outside hitters. Fiona’s bubbly personality lit up the team on and off the court. You could always count on her to say hi in the hallways, and she was always a reliable teammate. A favorite memory for most of the team was driving to away games with Fiona. She is fun to talk to and always has a cheerful attitude. She is constantly striving to encourage her teammates and her contributions to the team will not be forgotten. Fiona will be in NYC next year at The Fashion Institute of Technology! We love and miss you, Fiona!
We are so grateful to all of these amazing seniors and will forever have the best memories with them. We know they will accomplish amazing things in their future endeavors! We love you all so much and hope to see you next year!
