It’s that time of year again when Montrosians practice for their auditions for the spring musical and anxiously await the cast list. In this year of “Anne” plays (the middle school Annie Jr followed by the upper school Anne of the Seven Ages), Montrose will perform Anne of Green Gables the Musical for the all-school play. Despite the inclement weather, musical auditions took place this past week; however, this year’s auditions didn’t only include students.
This year, teachers and faculty members were invited to audition for the spring musical. While roles have not been cast yet, students expressed mixed emotions about sharing the stage with faculty. Some students expressed fear that they’ll lose their parts to teachers who are more experienced, some of whom participated in plays in college. Others expressed excitement to be able to participate in an activity with their teachers.
Student spectators expressed unanimous enthusiasm for the new intergenerational show: “I think it’s going to be really fun to watch my classmates and teachers acting together,” remarked one student. Another says she’s thrilled to see her teachers “showcase their many talents.”
Although the outcome of the auditions remains unknown, student auditionees are either worrying or excited that their teachers will be acting with them. Others, including myself, are looking forward to watching this multi-generational musical!
