Diwali Recipe: Gulab Jamun
Diwali, also called Deepawali or the Festival of Lights or even New Year, is an Indian festival. During Diwali, Indians eat a lot of mouth-watering desserts, (one of my favorite parts of Diwali) which we wait all year to eat. This year my mom made five different types of sweets! One of them is gulab jamun, one of most common and classic sweets made for Diwali – it’s simply delicious! Here is the recipe for gulab jamun:
Prep Time: 20 minutes
Cook Time: 30 minutes
Ingredients (to make 40):
For the dough:
- 1 cup milk powder (I used the MTR Gulab Jamun Ready Mix)
- ¼ cup water
Oil (for deep frying)
For sugar syrup:
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
Instructions:
To make the sugar syrup:
- Combine 1 cup of sugar with 1 cup of water and boil for five minutes.
To make the dough:
- Softly add water to the milk powder to make a smooth dough. Keep aside for 5 minutes.
- Apply oil to both of your palms and shape the dough into small balls.
- Deep fry the balls in oil on a low flame until the balls become golden brown.
- Soak the fried balls in hot sugar syrup for 20 minutes.
Now your gulab jamun is ready to be served! You can eat it alone or with cold ice cream!
