After a long weekend, Montrose students and faculty jumped right back into the busyness of early November. However, in the beginning of Character Leadership Discussions on Wednesday the 12th, the whole school stopped to remember why we had Tuesday off in the first place.
The entire school gathered at 2:15 PM by our flag pole on the front lawn to honor our Veterans. Together, we recited the Pledge of Allegiance followed by a moment of silence.
President of Student Government Elle Schirripa ‘15 encouraged students to think about family members or friends who have given the ultimate sacrifice for their country and to thank God for their invaluable service. Then, led by Molly Cahill ‘16, we sang God Bless America to honor our veterans through song.
People honor the veterans in different ways, Mrs. Hofer says, “ I dressed in red, white, and blue. I participated in the planning of the ceremony at Montrose because I am the faculty advisor for the Honor Guard Club at Montrose.” Substitute teacher and alumnae, Ms. Nicole Hofer (daughter to Mrs. Hofer), who will soon join the Air Force, added, “I see veterans as my predecessors and role models; and, when I have the chance, I thank them for their service, even when it’s not Veterans Day.” This is a good reminder that we should show veterans on-going gratitude all the time not just on this particular day.
Although only a short ceremony, in these ten minutes, Montrosians did their part to recognize those brave souls who have gone before us and our country.
