First came the school website, then a Facebook page, a Vimeo account, a Twitter, and now Montrose has conquered another form of social media: Instagram. Montrose School recently decided to create a public instagram account specifically documenting the daily routine in the students’ life. The Instagram account name will be listed on future newsletters, magazines and flyers.
The account goes by the name montrose_mavericks and is run by a combination of both students and faculty. Student photographer Kate Wahle ‘16 describes how she obtained the job as reporter saying, “I was approached by Ms. Nielson a few weeks back and she said she was searching for someone who would be available throughout the day to take pictures of kids doing their daily routine. She said that she had reached out to a few students who nominated me for the job, and I was really excited and appreciative that I was even recommended.”
Currently there are 28 posts uploaded on the account. The pictures consist of after school activities, sporting events, teachers, birthdays, and most importantly, the ever-present school spirit. Wahle details the content of the pictures saying, “The main objective of the pictures is to give outsiders an idea of what goes on in our school everyday. They can hear what occurs during the day from teachers and faculty at the open houses, but this account gives them a more personal glance at what Montrose is really about. They can see for themselves what makes Montrose truly a unique and special experience.” The Instagram account serves as a lens through which the general community can observe and understand a day in the life of a Montrose student.
This December the Looking Glass will be hosting a photo challenge for any student who feels she can truly captures what Christmas looks like at Montrose. The photo can be emailed to Monica Stack, texted to Monica Stack at 781-929-0048 or posted on Instagram with the hashtag #christmasatmontrose. December 18th will be the last day to submit photos and the winners will receive some fantastic prizes.
