In early November, Montrose hosted an international conference of girls’ schools similar in mission to Montrose, called GALS conference, or Girls Aspire to Leadership Summit. Its purpose is to is to bring together our Montrose sister schools from around the globe to share ideas and to inspire one another. During the conference, there will be several presentations given by Montrose students, who will lead discussions and interactive activities to promote effective leadership among all the teenage girls. Over 70 students and administrators are expected.

Student leaders from the school newspaper, The Looking Glass, Student Government, service projects, athletic team captains, along with an open-ended topic, ‘Called to Greatness’ will form the student program. Sister school guests come are traveling from the Washington DC area, Canada, El Salvador and the Philippines to spend the weekend at conference events while living with host families in the school community. Many fun activities have been planned to create a weekend full of learning, building new relationships, and most importantly lasting memories.

School administrators will also participate in talks with teachers and administrators at Montrose, including Head of School Dr. Bohlin, Assistant Head of School & Academic Dean Mrs. Ginnetty, Director of Curriculum & Professional Development Mrs. Elrod and English teacher and Humanities Coordinator Mrs. Whitlock.

While the term “first annual” is not grammatically correct, all remain hopeful that a GALS conference 2 will follow next year.
