The Ultimate Marvel Debate: Team Cap or Team Tony?

Captain America and Iron Man go head to head in Captain America: Civil War.

Warning: Contains spoilers for some of the Avengers movies

If you have seen any kind of Marvel movie with Captain America and Iron Man, particularly, Captain America: Civil War, someone has probably asked you the following: “Are you Team Cap or Team Tony?”. Some background information from the Avengers: The Civil War, is Captain America and Iron Man were fighting over whether they should sign a document to only be able to use their powers only when the government calls them. Captain America doesn’t want to, Iron Man does not either but he is willing to sign it just to appease the governments for a while.

I personally like Iron Man better and here’s why:

1. Tony is more logical.

Tony thinks about what he is going to do and how it will affect others, but Captain America always sticks with his gut instincts.

In The Avengers, (2012) Captain America, Iron Man and the rest of the Avengers, are fighting against Loki (one of the Avengers’s brothers) who is trying to take over the Earth. Captain America and Iron Man are having an argument.

Steve –  I know guys with none of that worth ten of you. I’ve seen the footage. The only thing you really fight for is yourself. You’re not the guy to make the sacrifice play, to lay down on a wire and let the other guy crawl over you.

TONY-I think I would just cut the wire.

STEVE-Always a way out. You know, you may not be a threat, but you better stop pretending to be a hero.

TONY-A hero, like you? You’re a laboratory experiment, Rogers. Everything special about you came out of a bottle.  (Avengers, 2012)

This kind of shows that Iron Man uses wit over panicking.

2. Tony provides for his team and is smart.

Since Tony is rich, he helps other members of his team by making suits for them (ex. Spider-Man and War Machine). The Avengers’ headquarters is his building.

3. Iron Man has a better suit.

Iron Man’s suit is a lot better than Cap’s. Plus, as an anonymous seventh grader said: “I like red better than blue.”

4. Tony was right in Civil War. Instead of giving up everything to keep his rights, Tony is willing to give the government a little so he can keep most of his rights.

5. Tony dies to save the whole world.

In Avengers: Endgame, Tony dies by snapping his fingers with the Infinity Stones so he can save all the people who died when Thanos snapped.

Montrosians chimed in with their opinions on Iron Man vs. Captain America. Captain America and Iron Man have always been in a feud ever since The Civil War.

An anonymous seventh grader said: “Tony, because his personality is just more funny and is enjoyable to watch; HE BRINGS LIFE TO THE MOVIES.”

Mariah Hanifin ‘26 said: “Tony, because he’s nicer. He’s a sweet old man.”

Here are some quotes from people who are on Team Cap:

Tess Kurina ‘26 said: “Cap, because Bucky’s on it”

Natalia McLaughlin ‘26 said: “Cap, because he’s more than just a metal suit.”

However, some people are also on Team Natasha.

“I like Team Nat, because she is better than everyone else,” said Tess Kurina ‘26.
