This year, there were many new clubs started, including the FIRST robotics team. This is the first ever Montrose robotics team led by Mrs. Daubert. The Robotics Club is brand new, so it will not be active until next year. Many people, however, are excited to join.
Mrs. Daubert started this team because of the wonderful experience she had with the robotics club she was a part of in high school. Mrs. Daubert said: “I was on my high school’s robotics team and it was an amazing experience; I learned a lot about science and engineering, how to work on a team, and how to run a complex organization.” When Mrs. Daubert became a high school teacher, she was the assistant coach for that school’s robotics team. During her time as an assistant coach, she realized that the FIRST organization’s robotics competitions had a huge impact on the students who participated in them. So, she decided to bring the impact of the competitions to those at Montrose interested in robotics.
In fact, Mrs. Daubert’s favorite part about the robotics team are the competitions. They are fun, and there is a very positive environment full of excitement. Mrs. Daubert also likes the emphasis on Gracious Professionalism, which she said is about doing your best while respecting others around you. An opposing team might be struggling to build their robot. If someone sees that team, they will automatically help, because any opposing team could become your partner later on in the competition. Since the Montrose robotics team is brand new, they have not competed yet, but their first event will be the competition kick off on September 7. The team will start competing in regional competitions around the state. If they are successful and move on from regional competitions, they could move on to world championships! The team will participate in huge competitions and robotics events that could have hundreds of robotics teams.
The Montrose robotics team is still forming and is open for anyone to join (any skill-level) by contacting Mrs. Daubert. Next year, the meetings will be very fun and engaging. On September 7, the new game will be announced for the year’s competition. Once the game is announced, the meetings will be spent coding, building and testing a robot that will be able to play this game against opposing teams. Members of Montrose’s robotics team will be part of a coding team, a driving team and will not be needed for every single meeting. Regardless of your position in the robotics team, the experience is guaranteed to be amazing!
