What is one day of the year you eat turkey and stuffing? If you said Thanksgiving, you guessed wrong: It’s Fr. Dick’s birthday. That was one of the many facts Fr. Dick shared with Looking Glass reporters during his birthday interview. In celebration of our beloved chaplain’s 88th birthday on November 8th, Fr. Dick shared some his favorite birthday memories and traditions.
“We had turkey on my birthday every year with stuffing,” he explained. This was a tradition every year on his birthday growing up. Looking back, Fr. Richard Reiman decided his favorite birthday memory was during his years with St. Josemaria in Rome. “St. Josemaria took me out to lunch on my birthday. He took me to Naples Italy to have lunch,” he recalled. And Fr. Dick’s favorite type of cake? “Baked Alaska,” he answered without hesitation. Baked Alaska is a chocolate cake layered with ice cream and topped off with a frozen meringue.
This year’s celebration celebrated with a mass by the eighth grade and the traditional cake and singing during break. The happiest birthday wishes to Fr. Dick: 88 more to come!
