Field Hockey Season Recap
Wrapping up the season this past week, the varsity field hockey team had a great run this year. Like most fall sports, there were no games to look forward to last year, so the team was thrilled to get back out on the playing field this season. The team also saw a lot of new players this year with a number of eighth and ninth graders joining the team. This brings such a joyous and energetic environment for the rest of the girls to come to every practice. In addition, as five seniors will not be returning next year, the incredible talent remaining ensures the field hockey program has a bright future.
Despite the various grades represented on the field hockey team, it didn’t stop every player from forming a strong bond with the rest of her teammates. Regarding being a new player just this year, Ali Quinn ‘23 says: “When I came to Montrose at the start of this school year, the field hockey team was the first Montrose community I became a part of. It didn’t take long before my teammates became my sisters and field hockey became something I looked forward to everyday. I am so lucky to have had such a loving field hockey family and I can’t wait for next season.” The support and friendship on this team was amazing and always made practices and games so enjoyable every single day. Unfortunately, there were a couple injuries on the team that prevented some girls from playing, but the whole team stepped up to help readjust on the field. Though she sustained a season-ending injury, senior and co-captain Annie Bratschi ‘22 still came to every practice and game to cheer everyone on. She says: “We had such a great field hockey season this year. I’m so thankful for all the girls on the team that made it so memorable and fun. I’m extremely proud of how hard our team worked this year!”
Leaving the team that I have been playing on since seventh grade is one of the hardest things I’ve had to face. I can’t even put into words how grateful I am for every teammate I’ve had each season, especially these amazing girls who I have become sisters with this past fall. Coach Bettinelli and Coach Osborne have encouraged me and supported me from day one, and I am incredibly thankful for everything they have done for me and the whole program.
To my team: thank you for shaping me into the player, teammate, and person I am now. I love you all and I know that Annie, Amaia, Ava, Bella, and I are leaving the field hockey program in the best hands it could possibly be in.
