Varsity Soccer has had yet another season of success, spirit and spark, ending with a record of 13 wins, two losses, and one tie. The athletes have worked together to score goals, develop in the habits of mind, heart and character, and ultimately make it to the IGC finals. Coaches Lauren Francis and Emily Magalotti have helped practices and games to not only be fun, but also productive for each player’s development. The team has great chemistry and works well together on and off the field. Senior captains Carolina Florez, Caroline Brennan and Sarah Queeney have been wonderful leaders and have set a great example for the underclassmen. Their incredible talent, admirable work ethic, and constant support have led the team to success. Seniors Maria Silveyra Dodds, our starting left wing, and Natalia McLaughlin, the team manager, have brought equally as much to the team, and we are so grateful for their cheerful presence. Additionally, Bria Santoro ’29 deserves an honorable mention as the leading goal scorer this season.
Some of the team’s toughest competition this season included Covenant Christian Academy, Dana Hall School, Newton Country Day School and Mount Saint Charles Academy. Covenant Christian Academy, an in-league opponent, had a strong sense of camaraderie and skill and was a challenge for our team, but we ultimately pulled out a 2-0 win against them on Oct. 1. Dana Hall and NCDS were out of league Class B and Class C NEPSAC teams. Those two games gave the team valuable lessons and drove the team to play at the next level. We faced Dana Hall on Oct. 9, and unfortunately lost 3-0. However, we were quite happy with our performance against this high quality team, and it was a competitive and well-fought match. On Oct. 20, we played NCDS, and we also could not manage to take home a win in this game. Despite a 2-0 loss, this was a very close game, and Montrose played great. Another challenging team we faced this season was Mount Saint Charles, who we played on Oct. 17. We knew that this would be a tough game going into, as MSC is a Class B NEPSAC team. However, we gave it our all and took home a 0-0 tie.
Many girls on the team were eager to share their insight on our fantastic season. Emily Rameaka ‘29 commented: “This season has gone amazing, and the community and friendship of the whole team has been amazing as well!”
Elisabeth Halberstadt ‘27, expressed a similar mindset about the season as Emily, and said: “Despite being a young team this year, we improved so much in our communication and passing skills and I am super excited for the playoffs!”
It can be said with confidence that this has been a wonderful season so far, and we are looking forward to continuing this season with the IGC championship on Tuesday, November 4th. We are also hoping for a spot in the New England Prep School Athletic Conference (NEPSAC), which would extend our fun and hardworking season.
Thank you so much to everyone on the team for all of the effort, dedication, and enthusiasm that you have contributed this season. Special thanks to Coach Lauren; you have helped each player individually succeed and thrive this season, and you have also helped the team learn and grow as a whole. We appreciate your constant support, commitment, and insightful ideas which in turn help with the progression of this program. Lastly, we are so sad to bid farewell to our five wonderful seniors: Carolina, Caroline, Sarah, Maria and Natalia. Thank you for everything and we will miss you all so much next year! Wishing you the best of luck in college, and don’t forget to come back to watch a game!
And with that the 2025 Montrose Varsity Soccer Season soon comes to a close. We are looking forward to the 2026 season and all that it will bring!
