Every year Montrose has 2 sports banquets: a fall and a winter/spring. These banquets recognize and celebrate sports teams’ and individuals’ achievements, along with their hard work throughout the season. A couple of weeks ago was the fall sports banquet, celebrating the success of 4 sports: Soccer, Volleyball, Field Hockey, and Cross Country. Each sport has a Varsity and JV team, and all 8 teams hand out awards on which their players have voted. The 4 awards are MVP, Most Improved, 110%, and Unsung Hero.
MVP Award: This goes to a player who encompasses dedication to the team: putting teammates and coaches first, maximum effort at her position, and contributing to the team in a positive way.
Most Improved Award: This award is given to a player who has made tremendous gain in her overall skill and confidence level throughout the season.
110% Award: This goes to a player who always works hard and gives her best effort in both practice and games.
Unsung Hero: This final award is given to an athlete who has dedicated herself to the sport and has made an outstanding contribution to her team in a selfless manner.
The 2023 Fall sports season was very successful for Montrose. Both Varsity Volleyball and Varsity Soccer were the Division I IGC champions. Varsity Field Hockey had the most successful season in the team’s history, with a 6-1-4 record, and Cross Country won the Division 3 NEPSTA championship. The captains for next year’s season were also announced at the sports banquet (see the list below). Overall, the Montrose Sports Banquet is a night filled with celebration and comradery. Athletes’ hard work and dedication were recognized and celebrated, and the food was great!
