It is that time of year where the leaves turn the handsome shades of red, orange, gold, auburn, and brown, and the weather turns from extreme heat to crisp autumn days. Fall is one of my favorite seasons because of all the festivities and especially the recipes that come with it. Fall recipes vary in many different ways including their shapes, sizes, flavor palates, and cultures. From warm cinnamon buns to flavor filled pumpkin pies, there are so many foods to choose from and it is impossible to pick a favorite.
The best flavors of the entire year come out during this season, when all the fresh foods are ready for harvest. There are many different harvest foods that the season just wouldn’t be the same without. These include cranberries, carrots, corn, beans, squash, potatoes, and pumpkins. We can thank the farmers for a wonderful year and harvest during this season. These different fall fruits and vegetables can be incorporated in all different kinds of recipes and variations.
We also cannot forget about the traditions behind all the festive foods. Like apple picking with your entire family on a nice, crisp day. Or maybe it is walking in a corn maze with your family, struggling to find a way out. Perhaps it could even be watching your favorite fall movie that makes you feel all warm and cozy inside. The traditions are endless, but they all have one thing in common: the autumn season.
When I think about fall, I think about football games and how they remind me of soft pretzels, nachos, chips and salsa, and grill foods. My family likes to pick apples at Honey Pot Orchards and not only pick them, but eat them too. Right now, I am going to have my favorite meal, pork and apples with butternut squash soup.
