“Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!” I’m not referencing the hit ABBA song pretty much everyone knows the lyrics to; “Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again” is the name of the sequel to the hit 2008 musical, Mamma Mia.

For those who have forgotten or just haven’t seen the movie, Mamma Mia is the iconic story we  all know and love. Set on the Greek island of Kalokairi, bride-to be Sophie secretly sends out three wedding invitations to her three possible fathers: Sam, Bill, and Harry. Once the perspective fathers arrive in Greece, Sophie hides them from her mother. Donna, in order to surprise her with the old friends she seems to be so fond of. Donna later discovers their presence and demands that her ex-lovers be sent off the island. Different hints from each man gives Sophie reason to believe he is her father, and therefore, he should be the one to walk Sophie down the aisle. It’s all very sweet until all three dads want to walk Sophie down the aisle. Moments before her wedding, Sophie decides to have her mother walk her down the aisle, and the men each agree to be ⅓ Sophie’s father. At the last moment, Sophie and Sky, her dashing fiancé, decide to sail away instead of get married, and Donna gets married instead. In order to find out which man she marries, you’ll have to watch the film yourself!

The sequel is set to be released in July 2018, ten years after the original. Four cast members including Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried, Colin Firth and Pierce Brosnan have already been slated, and I hope to see more great actors signed on in the coming months. Although not much is known about the plotline yet, I can’t wait for more hit ABBA songs. Hopefully the film will feature some of our old favorites.
