“I think taking the right picture, especially when someone doesn’t feel confident about themself, and then showing it to them is a great feeling.”

The Looking Glass tries to cover every monumental Montrose event, and each article needs accompanying photos. From student feature photos to sports game snapshots, we have one editor to thank: Erika Torok, from the class of 2022. Without Erika’s photography, the Montrose student newspaper would lack the color and multimedia excitement it is lucky to boast. When asked about how she first came into the role, Erika said: “I was really into photography last year, so I asked Mrs. Whitlock, since I knew they didn’t have a photography editor: ‘Is there any chance I could be a photography editor?’ and she said: ‘Yeah, let’s do a trial run,’ and now I’m the editor!”

Ever since then, she has been an integral part of the Looking Glass, shedding light on everything that happens in the Montrose community. She has taken many pictures to highlight student achievement and school spirit. Her favorite pictures, though, are the photos for the Looking Glass staff profiles. She said: “Those are my favorite, favorite things to do. I really like portraits. I think taking the right picture, especially when someone doesn’t feel confident about themself, and then showing it to them is a great feeling.”

After Montrose, she’s going to the Worcester Polytechnic Institute to study robotics, engineering, and to run track. However, she’ll be taking tons of great memories with her. Telling me her favorite memories at this school, she said: “When our entire grade picked a day and brought in a bunch of junk food and had lunch in the cafeteria. One time I got a black eye walking into a pole. Not my favorite, just memorable.” She added: “Watching Miraculous in the A&E with my friends before physics class. When some girls got stuck in lockers sophomore year, it was really funny. Volleyball championships – That was great for the first time ever. Working at Starbucks was really cool, and track for four years was pretty cool too.”

The Looking Glass website will forever bear Erika’s photography. We thank her for her photos, improving every article they appear in, and making us all look great in our staff photos. We wish her the best in college and beyond, and we’ll miss seeing her at each event we attend and accomplishment we make. Thank you, Erika!
