As we are less than a couple weeks away from graduation, we want to take this moment to honor a very special and unique senior who has done so much for our Montrose Community for the past four years. Whether she is playing soccer on the field, adding to a discussion in the classroom, or leading Model UN, Carolina Florez (a.k.a Flo) brings enthusiasm and her best work to all she does.
The first thing Carolina did when she started Montrose in 8th grade was try out for the Varsity soccer team. She made it, and served as the captain this past fall. Carolina even called 8th and 9th grade soccer her best experience from Montrose. However, her athletic prowess did not end there, as Carolina tried out for the Varsity lacrosse team that same year. Although she had never played lacrosse before, surprisingly, she made the team. For the past two years, Carolina has been the captain of the Varsity lacrosse team. Additionally, she ran Indoor Track for four years. Sports are a big part of Carolina’s life and she has contributed so much to the Montrose athletic program during her time here.
In addition to being a talented, multi-sport athlete, Carolina has also participated in many clubs and activities during her time at Montrose, including Model UN, Speech and Debate, Chapel Crew, and Respect for Life. Members of these clubs praise Carolina for being a very organized, attentive, and passionate leader that greatly contributed to their success. One of her favorite memories from these clubs is making it to state finals for Speech and Debate her junior year. She describes this as being a very cool experience that she looks back on with pride. Additionally, a Model UN mini conference with Xaverian is another great memory that Carolina cherishes from her time at Montrose.
Despite dedicating so much of her time to sports and other clubs and activities, Carolina has still managed to be a very strong student. Earning impressive titles such as National Merit Scholar finalist, Carolina has been commended for her work ethic, curiosity, and tenacity. She earned impressive grades throughout all four years of high school, and has modeled the habits of mind, heart, and character in each of her classes.
Overall, Carolina has established a very strong presence at Montrose, and the University Notre Dame is lucky to have her next year. We will miss you, Carolina!
