“Are winter sports still happening this year?” That is a question I have been wondering, and you probably have been, too! When I interviewed Montrose Athletic Director Mrs. Boynton, I was thrilled to hear that winter sports will be happening. “We are excited to be able to deliver a great athletic program this winter, although it will look much different than it has in the past,” said Mrs. Boynton. Because all the sports are indoors, athletes are required to wear masks at all times. It can be inconvenient, but it’s worth it to play our winter sports. Obviously, mask-wearing can be seen as a positive or negative. In the spring, everyone learned to be flexible because things can change suddenly, and we are continuing to exercise that flexibility and understanding.

Basketball will look different, but it will happen! The schedule (as of 11/12) is:

Middle School Basketball (open to girls in grades 6-8) will practice Monday & Friday from 3:15 – 4:00 PM

JV Basketball (open to girls in grades 6-9) will practice Monday, Tuesday & Friday from 3:45 – 4:45 PM

Varsity Basketball (open to girls in grades 8-12) will practice Monday, Tuesday & Friday from 4:30 – 5:45 PM and one additional day.

The protocols (as of 11/12) are as follows:

  • Training activities must be performed in “cohorts” of the same small group of individuals that perform all training activities together, without interacting with other individuals or cohorts.
  • Cohorts can be no larger than ten (10) participants and the same cohort assignments must be used for every training session or class. Participants cannot be a member of multiple cohorts, nor can cohort assignments rotate.
  • Training areas or boundaries must be marked so that training cohorts are separated in all directions by at least 14 feet. Cohort sizes should be capped by the number of available training areas based on the size of the facility and in no event should there be more than 25 people on a playing surface.
  • Two basketball cohorts can be on the court at one time as long as no contact occurs between cohorts.

The Indoor Track Club will also be returning! It is open to grades 6-12 and will be practicing Monday, Tuesday, and Friday from 4-5:30 PM. The Mindful Strength training run by Mrs. Crehan will also be held. She will be running sessions for both middle school and upper school.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email Mrs. Boynton.
