Bailey Zappe attempted to make one of only a few passes as he played in his first NFL regular season game against the intimidating Green Bay Packers.

  • Due to Mac Jones’ high ankle sprain, he was unable to play against the powerhouse Green Bay Packers. His backup is Brian Hoyer. This game was a difficult one, as not only did the Patriots have a different quarterback playing, but it was also an away game against a very talented team which also has a stadium that is very difficult to play at, Lambeau Field. After a drive downfield that ended in an overthrown pass to Patriots’ tight end Hunter Henry, Patriots kicker Nick Folk made a field goal from thirty-seven yards away. On the first play of the Packers’ drive, Packers running back Romeo Doubs fumbled the ball, and Patriots Jack Jones recovered it, giving the Patriots another opportunity. They weren’t able to get any score off of this turnover and had to punt soon after the turnover. After this drive, Brian Hoyer was seen walking off of the field and to the locker room with multiple Patriots personnel, but the reason wasn’t specified. Rookie quarterback Bailey Zappe, a fourth round pick from Western Kentucky University will take his place. After a few drives, the Packers scored a touchdown, taking the lead. With thirteen seconds left in the first half, Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who got possession of the ball only because of a fumble by Bailey Zappe, threw an interception to Patriots’ cornerback Jack Jones, who ran with the ball all the way to the endzone for a touchdown. Going into halftime, the score was ten to seven, in favor of the Patriots. Around halfway through the third quarter, Aaron Rodgers made a thirty yard touchdown pass to tight end Robert Tonyan, retaking the lead for his team. Soon after, Bailey Zappe threw his first NFL touchdown to receiver Devante Parker! This play, however, technically never should’ve happened as there was a delay of game that wasn’t called by the referees. Delays of game aren’t able to be challenged, so there was nothing that Packers’ head coach Matt LaFleur could do, meaning that the touchdown stood and brought the Patriots back in the lead. The lead didn’t last long as after a seven play drive by the Patriots, running back Damien Harris took the ball in for a touchdown. The very next drive, Aaron Rodgers made a touchdown pass to receiver Romeo Doubs, tying the game. Rodgers made a perfect touchdown pass to the same receiver, but he was unable to hold onto the ball. At the two minute warning, the Patriots received possession of the ball back with ninety-eight yards needed for a touchdown and a minute-and-fifty-three seconds left to play. At the end of regulation, the game was a tie, and the Packers won the overtime coin toss. Overtime is played as one ten minute period, where a touchdown on the first drive will end the game, but after the first drive, any score wins. As time expired, Packers kicker Mason Crosby made the game-winning, thirty-one yard field goal
  • For the next few weeks, there will be games played across the Atlantic Ocean in London. This week, the teams that will face off in the international matchup will be the Minnesota Vikings and the New Orleans Saints. All of the games played in London will be broadcasted at 9:30 A.M. Eastern Standard Time, meaning that we get to watch more football!
  • During this week’s London game, which took place at the Tottenham Hotspur soccer stadium, the Minnesota Vikings and the New Orleans Saints faced off. These two were well-matched for the entirety of the game, and by the end, the Vikings had a three point lead. Desperate to score with only a few seconds left, the Saints went for the sixty-one yard, game-tying field goal. However, after hitting the goalpost and then the crossbar, the kick was no good, and the Vikings barely held on for the win.
  • Despite Hurricane Ian, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers played their home game on Sunday Night Football against the Kansas City Chiefs in their home stadium. On the first play of the game, The Buccaneers’ kick returner fumbled the ball, and one play later, Chiefs’ quarterback Patrick Mahomes made a touchdown pass to tight end Travis Kelce. A few plays later, Buccaneers’ kicker Ryan Succop got the Buccaneers a field goal. The game continued to go back and forth as it did from the beginning to end. The game ended up being one of the highest-scoring ones of the season, but the Chiefs just barely took the win over the Buccaneers.
  • The Miami Dolphins traveled to Cincinnati to play against the Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday Night Football. The Dolphins’ quarterback, Tua Tagovailoa, clearly suffered a concussion in their win last Sunday after hitting his head on the ground and being unable to walk off of the field without wobbling and falling over. He was cleared to return to that game and was cleared to play on Thursday. However, that was a major mistake, and he ended up having to be taken off of the field in a stretcher after getting hit in the head again. He was taken to a local hospital and was released later that night. The neurologist who initially cleared him for this game has since been fired.
  • After suffering from a torn meniscus, and receiving surgery in mid-August, New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson made his season debut today. His first touchdown of the season came from what is known as the “Philly special,” which is when there is a direct-snap to the running back, who hands off to a receiver, who then passes to the quarterback, who, if the play is run right, will be in the endzone.
  • After both of the New York Giants quarterbacks got hurt, running back, Saquon Barkley, was forced to take over at quarterback.
  • It was revealed that Arizona Cardinals defensive end JJ Watt went into atrial fibrillation (better known as a-fib) on Wednesday and had to have his heart shocked back into rhythm. Despite that, he played on Sunday!
  • The Baltimore Ravens, who were hosting the Buffalo Bills on Sunday afternoon, were in the lead, twenty to three at halftime. The Bills came roaring back, scoring seventeen unanswered points, trying the game. As time expired, the Bills’ kicker, Tyler Bass, kicked the game-winning field goal, completing the comeback.
  • During halftime of the New York Jets playing against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Steelers’ quarterback Mitch Trubisky was benched, and in his place came Kenny Pickett, a rookie from the University of Pittsburgh, who was seeing his first regular season action.
  • After Week 4, the only remaining undefeated team is the Philadelphia Eagles, who had a very hard-fought win at home against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
    • During the Monday Night Football game which had the San Francisco 49ers hosting the Los Angeles Rams, a fan ran onto the field while holding a pink smoke grenade. He ran around the field until he was close to the Rams’ sideline, where Rams linebacker Bobby Wagner took the fan down until security could escort him off of the field.
