Last week, Montrose’s JV Soccer team wrapped up their fall season. The team entered the season timidly because many strong players were called up to the varsity team; soon, they were reassured, however, by the new talent that entered Montrose this fall. The team worked well together on the field and greatly improved throughout the season. This team not only enjoyed each other’s company but helped each other improve every game. Some things they greatly improved upon were throw-ins, shooting, and (for some) developing their goalie skills!
During the month of October, the team started a new tradition by raising money to buy pink soccer socks for breast cancer awareness month. The remaining proceeds went to Salon Monique in Canton to make wigs for cancer patients going through chemotherapy. Representatives from the team presented the check to the salon, and they were very appreciative.
This year, the team was led by Coach O’Connor and Coach O’Malley. Together, the team had a successful season that ended with a scrimmage and celebration with the Montrose Middle School team. The players will come together one last time at the sports banquet, where select individuals will be recognized for awards in the following categories: 110% award, Most Improved, Most Valuable Player, and Unsung Hero. Intense, joyful, competitive, and athletic are just a few of the characteristics that describe this year’s JV Soccer team. If you see a JV Soccer player wearing her newly acquired soccer sweatshirt, be sure to congratulate her on a great season.
