In the 2025 season, the Track and Field team was blessed to be led by 9 incredible seniors: Maddy Kerr, Rosie Beard, Grace Sanyu, Eva Derendorf, Josie Marcucci, Gabriella Bogart, Kelly McFarland, Elise Thompson and Liesl-Ann Vaz. Words can not begin to express how thankful we are to all of the leadership and hard work they have faithfully poured into the team for the last one to seven years.
Maddy Kerr has been part of the track team for seven years. She holds multiple school records in the distance events, and always works hard for each new Personal Record. She is an inspirational leader and a consistent example of how hard work pays off. Next year, Maddy will be running for Bucknell University. We are going to miss you and your leadership, Maddy. Good luck in college, and keep breaking records!!
Rosie Beard has also been part of the track team for seven years and brings so much spirit to our team. She is incredibly inspiring in so many aspects, and you very rarely hear a complaint about anything from her. She’s always there to hype everyone up and is the designated hair braider. She is always the best cheerleader on the track, you can count on hearing her voice above all the others in all your events. Despite a long-term and frustrating injury, Rosie never stopped fighting to be able to run again, and never stopped showing up for the team with a smile on her face. Rosie will be attending University Of Dallas next year. We are going to miss your cheers, braids and ab workouts, Rosie!! Best of luck in college!
Grace Sanyu is once again a seven-year-track-team survivor. She adds so much fun to the team; I can’t imagine the team without her. As Coach Kerr always says: “she’s always the last to the bus, but first across the finish line.” She is a consistent leader for the sprinters on the team, and you can count on her leading the sprint pack and encouraging us to break new sprint records. She has been the faithful anchor of the 4x100m relay for two years, leading the relay to countless top 3 finishes. Grace will be running track at Babson College next year. We wish you lots of speed and fun at Babson next year. We will miss you so much!
Eva Derendorf is also a seven-year-track-team survivor. She is incredibly reliable and a true secret weapon in the 300 meter Hurdles. You can count on Eva to complete every workout without complaining, and leave it to Eva to attack the stairs workout in the Mezzanine, always hoping to break her previous stair record. We are so thankful for all of Eva’s leadership and encouragement on the track team. We are so proud of you going into ROTC at Catholic University of America, and we are confident that you will do so well in both college and ROTC. We will miss you, but we know you will go forward to accomplish amazing things.
Josie Marcucci is yet another seven-year survivor. I guess the track team isn’t such a bad experience if we have so many seven year survivors! Josie is so much fun to have on the team. Once she gets everyone laughing you may not be able to stop. Josie brings such a lighthearted spirit to the team and you can always count on her for a smile. She’s an incredible sprinter who has helped lead the 4×100 relay to countless victories. Josie’s someone who you want as your supporter on the track but also in life and Providence college is so lucky to be getting her next year!! Thank you so much for all you’ve done for the team, and you will be so missed!
Gabriella Bogart is quiet but mighty. You can count on Gabriella to attack hurdles and support the team in every aspect. This is only Gabriela’s third year doing track but she has already contributed so much to the team and has set huge PR’s, helping lead our team to victory! Gabriella is attending University of Dayton next year. We are so thankful that you have been there for everyone and you will be very missed!!
Kelly McFarland just came to Montrose this year but has not failed to contribute so much to our team in such a short amount of time. She holds the school record in the shot put and has led the throwers to many personal bests as well as contributing to the strength of our field eventers as a whole this year in particular. Kelly is attending St. Bonaventure University for Rugby next year and will be greatly missed by everyone, especially the throwers!!
Elise Thompson has been doing track for two years now. Elise always brings a smile and has a great sense of humor always bringing light heartedness to every meet. She is our #1 Javelin thrower and has contributed so much to the success of our team in both Javelin and discus this year. Thanks for everything and good luck at California Lutheran University next year!
Liesl-Ann Vaz is someone who you can always count on for words of encouragement on and off the track. She is a resilient thrower who has broken many PR’s over the past years in javelin as well as shot put. She has an incredibly kind heart and great sense of humor. Although only her third year doing track she contributes so much to building our team community as well as lending a helping hand when needed. Liesl-Ann will be attending Providence college next year, and although we will miss seeing you in the halls and on the track we know you are going to contribute so much to Providence!!
