The three senior varsity lacrosse captains Caroline Brennan ‘26, Sarah Queeney ‘26, and Carolina Florez ‘26 have made history as the first captains to play a game on the brand new Montrose turf. These seniors have been committed leaders of the team, and have led the team to an in-league record of 7-0 and overall record of 8-3, securing the IGC Championship once again. They will be greatly missed next season but their legacy will live on.
Carolina Florez, or as her teammates call her, Flo, has been on the Montrose varsity lacrosse team since 8th grade. Since then, she has been the voice of the defense, bringing her energy to every practice and game. On occasion she runs up to midfield where she showcases her speed and grit. On senior day this year, Flo was able to score her first and last two goals of the season. This defender had amazing offensive play, showing her versatility on the field. The team will miss her spirit, dedication, and presence on and off the field, but we know she is going to do great things as she moves forward to attend The University of Notre Dame. Go Irish!
Caroline Brennan has been a part of the Montrose lacrosse team since 9th grade. She brings humor, hard work, and smarts on attack to each practice and game. She had countless goals this season, many of which were crease rolls—Caroline’s signature shot. Her intensity on the attack is apparent every time the ball is in the offense. She is a key player in each of our plays, many of which set her up to shoot. When Caroline shoots, you know it is going to hit the back of the net. Her speed, shots, and smile will be missed next year, but we know she is going to make just as much of an impact during her time at Fairfield. We love you Caroline!
Sarah Queeney joined the Montrose lacrosse team just last year, but her impact has been so significant. She is a natural leader who rallies the team to get hyped for the game, or just focus during practice. Her voice in the midfield and on defense guides the team to work as a unit. Her power on the draws often results in the team gaining possession, and her shots on the attack lead the team to success. She is a strong midfielder who has a very high lax IQ. She is always thinking about the next steps on how to get the ball in the back of the net. We will miss her power and presence next year. We are so excited to see her continue to do what she loves as she heads to Western New England University to play both soccer and lacrosse next year! We will miss you Sarah!
Just like that, the three seniors that the lacrosse team has cherished and loved, are graduating! Despite not having them on the field for the years to come, their legacy will live on and they will forever be the first captains to lead on the Miracle Field turf.
