I know we might say this every year, but the 2025 Montrose Varsity Field Hockey season has been one of our best and most exciting yet. Our seniors Gabbie Fetter, Gabriella Dansereau, and senior captains Kendra Baker, Chloe Munroe, and Nikki Schuster have been an integral part of our team for the past years, and have created a fun and challenging community that will long outlast their athletic careers here. Their devotion and fun-loving spirit has inspired us to give it all on the field—both through our athletic work and the friendships we form.
Gabbie Fetter is a universally recognized hard worker on our team, and models what it means to constantly improve and develop new skills through patience and perseverance. She holds down our midfield during games, but is willing to jump into any position where she is needed. I know Gabbie will always be remembered at Montrose as a player who knew how to grow in her field hockey abilities, while still fostering community and having fun as a group. I know the whole team wishes Gabbie the very best next year at Villanova University!
A long time member of the Varsity team (and Contributing Writer for the Looking Glass), Gabriella Dansereau has played nearly every position on the field—even goalie!—and is formidable at them all. A special skill that wins almost every team competition is her air dribbling, which she can keep on doing long after others have dropped their balls. Gabriella is a reliable player who gives her all both in practices and games and shows what it means to give everything she’s got to the team. Oklahoma University will be so lucky to have Gabriella as a student in the fall!
Kendra Baker, a senior captain, has headed our defense for as long as I can remember. She is a reliable leader who is willing to step in to help get things done, and we can always count on Kendra to host our team dinners, a fan favorite. She has the unique strength of making everyone feel valued and heard, and can open up a space to be honest, seek advice, and find camaraderie. We know Kendra will excel at UCLA next year, and we are so excited to hear about her new experiences there!
You would be hard pressed to come to a Varsity Field Hockey game without hearing “Speed, Chloe, speed!” from the bench as Chloe Munroe dashes up the sideline with the ball. We can depend on her to push the field forward and bring the ball up to work with teammates to score a goal. Aside from her skill, Chloe is a captain who is a friend to all, and knows how to make our practices and long drives to games a memorable bonding experience. Personally, Chloe has been a role model for me of what a forward player should be: someone who puts the other players first and is consistently ready to step when needed. University of New Hampshire is so fortunate to have you next year, Chloe, and we will miss you on the field!
Nikki Schuster has been our two-year captain and team MVP, and now the first team graduate to play field hockey at the collegiate level. She is one of the most outgoing and inclusive people I have ever met, and I will never forget how Nikki welcomed me onto the team as a younger player and made me feel like an important part of the group. As a field hockey player, she is unbelievably talented and dedicated, and has frequently been the extra push to victory needed during a tight game. She will be so missed next season, but we know Salve Regina University is lucky to have her. Expect a team visit to one of your games next season!
Lastly, a special thank you to our coaches, Mrs. Bettinelli, Ms. Caranti, and Mrs. Osbourne—in spite of every challenge a season without our home field brought, you helped us to make the most of the situation and grow from it. It could not have happened without your tireless dedication, planning, and care for us all.
So, as we look forward to our next season in 2026, I want to thank you, field hockey seniors, for all of the hard work, heart, and energy you have given to the program over your years here at Montrose. When we step out on the new turf for the first practice, we promise you all will be remembered fondly as the people who led us through our journey to get here. You have been our team’s backbone for so many years, and we would never be where we are without you. Best wishes for everything to come next year, and know that you will be so missed here. Again, thank you all for everything—we all appreciate it more than you know.
